The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Key Part in Ashes Series

Test match action

The Australian skipper has taken 309 Test scalps in 71 five-day games with an average of 22.10.

The Australian chief selector the selector has confirmed that skipper Cummins will have a crucial role in the forthcoming England-Australia contest.

Rumors had circulated that Cummins might miss the series due to a persistent back stress problem that was still troubling him.

Initial reports from the Australian camp suggested no official announcement had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series set to start on 21 November in the WACA.

He revealed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about the likelihood of taking part.

"We're aware that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations at play, aside from the physical problem, but additional elements," the selector added.

"We're encouraged. [We are] really confident that he'll participate in a significant role. Hopefully it's the first Test. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."

Previous Setbacks

Cummins was ruled out the white-ball matches against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals last month after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.

Previous incidents include of back injuries, with setbacks in multiple past seasons causing him to miss several home seasons in a short span.

The bowler mentioned he would be bold in recovery efforts in his comeback strategy to secure his spot for the series.

The selector indicated that there was no confirmation if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his recovery but acknowledged it was "pressing" for him to regain fitness for the initial match.

Backup Options

Should Cummins not be fit, ex-skipper Smith will take over the captaincy.

All-rounder Cameron Green was withdrawn recently from the national team for their one-day international series against India as a preventive step because of soreness in his side.

He labeled it as a "small issue and mentioned that he's scheduled to appear in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "ideally positioned to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to be available for the initial game as an dual-role player," he elaborated.

"His involvement was limited to the first two ODIs in any case. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, if it causes any delay for a short period, we just made the decision to take a cautious route."
