The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
