Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
